All the answers to all the questions

I am hearing about Pilates everywhere. What is it?

Pilates is a low-impact integrative system of exercise that uses breath, concentration, control, centering, precision of movement, rhythm and flow, and whole body movement, which leads to balanced muscle development and relaxation. Body weight on the mat combined with the use of spring resistance offered on Pilates apparatus will even out your muscle tone, improve your strength and flexibility, balance and posture, and even help you to lose weight.

For what it’s worth: It’s also one of the only systems of exercise that you can do lying down without too much sweating (in case you are coming in on your lunch break).

I have injuries. Can I still participate in Pilates?

Yep! Of course depending on the nature of your injury, you may be better off scheduling a private session or two with one of our instructors who are highly trained to work with and/or around your specific needs.

Is Pilates safe during pregnancy?

Yep! We love our mama’s and want them to be strong and prepared for what’s to come. All stages are encouraged to participate, but it will be more comfortable if you start your practice earlier on in your pregnancy. The Pilates Method is hands down the best way to strengthen and recover your abdominal muscles, core, and pelvic floor once you have been cleared to resume exercise.

Will I lose weight?

It’s likely. As with everything, you get what you put into your practice. Once you establish a regular practice and address any necessary dietary changes, weight loss is likely to occur as a natural result.

When will I see results and how often should I take class?

The more you practice, the sooner you’ll see results. A general rule of thumb: three times per week when you first start to learn the skills, twice per week to perfect those skills, once per week to maintain those skills.

Will I be sore?

It is likely, particularly when you first start your practice. However, the famous phrase “no pain, no gain” doesn’t live in this studio. As much as some of us like to be reminded of all of the hard work we put our bodies through, soreness doesn’t equal gains. In fact, being too sore after a workout can be an indicator that you may have damaged your muscles. We strive for awareness of new found strength, flexibility, and mobility, all wrapped up into a low-impact practice that will allow you to participate in any and all physical activity on the daily. We want you to leave each session feeling taller, stronger, more mobile, and ready to take on the world.

Do men participate?

Of course they do! Pilates was developed by a man, after all. His name was Joseph Pilates ;)

Should I do private sessions or group classes?

If you are just starting out, private sessions are highly recommended. There is a lot of instruction you will be receiving and it may be a bit overwhelming, at first. Private sessions will take a deeper dive into theory at a pace that works for you, while group classes tend to have a bit more of a flow. However, don’t let the unfamiliar stop you from participating in group class. We’re super friendly and will make sure you are doing everything to your best. You’ll get a great workout with either option and the Pilates concepts will take hold over time and practice!

Everybody has different goals, budgets, and schedules, so you’ll have to take those into consideration when booking.

How should I start?

You have three options:

  • You can book a 30 minute consult with one of our talented instructors. This is more of a getting to know you and your goals and sampling of Pilates exercises,

  • You can schedule a 50 minute private session where you will get the consult experience, but with a bit more of a workout,

  • You can dive into the deep end into one of our group classes. This option is best for those who have had some experience and are more comfortable navigating the equipment, though it’s not entirely necessary to have prior Pilates specific experience.

Whoa…waitlist?

Since we are small studio with only four reformers to a group class led by the best instructors in town, classes tend to fill quickly. So please check the schedule ahead of time and get on those lists! They do circulate through. If, and when, you are pulled from the waitlist, the system will send you a notification through text or email and you will have three hours to confirm before the offer expires and is sent to the next person on the list.

Any new classes being added to the schedule?

We will add classes as we can, but since we specialize in private sessions, our current instructor’s schedules are at full capacity. You will be notified of any new classes added via email, so make sure you sign up to receive notifications! We don’t have a regular newsletter and we do not spam.

*If you or someone you know is a certified Pilates Instructor and is looking to teach some additional classes, please reach out. We are looking to hire!

How are you handling Covid?

The best we can. Masks are optional, please wear one if you are more comfortable. Please get vaccinated and boosted if you haven’t been already!

Do not come into the studio if you are sick!! This applies to the flu, the cold, upset stomachs, random viruses or anything else that can be passed on to another human being. If your child is home sick, do not come into the studio! Wear a mask if you have a family member who is sick or immunocompromised.
